Can Artificial Intelligence meet the Cognitive Networking Challenge ?

چکیده
Recent developments in Software Defined Radio technology have created the opportunity to develop networks that are, in principle, highly adaptable and effective under a much wider range of operating conditions than currently possible, but few researchers are able to fully exploit this new flexibility. Cognitive radio networks require multiple interacting capabilities for situation assessment, planning and learning, and are therefore a rich application area for Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. AI techniques enable real-time, contextaware adaptivity at the core of the cognitive networking vision. This paper briefly discusses some of the AI techniques that can and have been leveraged in this domain. The goal is to encourage further research in this area so that we can overcome the most significant challenges that remain in cognitive networking.

Rethinking Networking Architectures for Cognitive Control
The field of adaptable communication networks is a rich application area for artificial intelligence technology. Recent developments in software defined radio technology have opened up the opportunity to develop networks that are, in principle, highly adaptable and effective under a much wider range of operating conditions than currently possible. Now is the time to work with the networking com...
متن کاملArtificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science Have the Same Problem
Cognitive scientists attempting to explain human intelligence share a puzzle with artificial intelligence researchers aiming to create computers that exhibit humanlevel intelligence: how can a system composed of relatively unintelligent parts (such as neurons or transistors) behave intelligently? I argue that although cognitive science has made significant progress towards many of its goals, th...

Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science have always been overlapping disciplines. Early in their history, that overlap was considerable. Herbert A. Simon wrote that “AI can have two purposes. One is to use the power of computers to augment human thinking. ... The other is to use a computer’s artificial intelligence to understand how humans think.” Conversely, at the foundation of the Cogn...
متن کاملKeep it simple - A case study of model development in the context of the Dynamic Stocks and Flows (DSF) task
This paper describes the creation of a cognitive model submitted to the ‘Dynamic Stocks and Flows’ (DSF) modeling challenge. This challenge aims at comparing computational cognitive models for human behavior during an open ended control task. Participants in the modeling competition were provided with a simulation environment and training data for benchmarking their models while the actual spec...
متن کاملThe Relevance of Artificial Intelligence for Human Cognition
We will discuss the question whether artificial intelligence can contribute to a better understanding of human cognition. We will introduce two examples in which AI models provide explanations for certain cognitive abilities: The first example examines aspects of analogical reasoning and the second example discusses a possible solution for learning first-order logical theories by neural network...
